UPDATE: A family is in shock following a brutal home invasion in Kew East, Melbourne, where a 39-year-old man was viciously stabbed multiple times, leaving him hospitalized. The attack occurred around 4 a.m. on Sunday as two alleged offenders remain at large, prompting urgent police investigations.
Authorities report that five intruders smashed a window of the family’s home on Oxford Street, waking the couple and their two young children, aged two and three. The suspects reportedly separated the husband and wife, with the wife being taken to a room where the children were sleeping.
Detective Sergeant Leeanne Trusler described the incident as “awful,” emphasizing the violation of safety that families should expect in their own homes. “You should be safe, you shouldn’t be disrespected in your home,” she stated, condemning the heinous act.
During the attack, the husband was allegedly stabbed 11 times in the head, arms, and face with a machete, resulting in a fractured arm. His 70-year-old grandfather rushed to help, suffering cuts to his hands and leg, while the 69-year-old grandmother was pushed during the chaos, sustaining facial bruises. Thankfully, all adult family members have since been treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Local member for Kew, Jess Wilson, expressed her concerns regarding community safety, stating, “Every person has the right to feel safe in their own home. My thoughts are with the family whose lives have been turned upside down by this horrific crime.”
In a quick turn of events, police apprehended three suspects shortly after the invasion. Two boys, aged 16 and 17, along with a 24-year-old man from Caroline Springs, are currently being interviewed regarding their involvement. The police are actively searching for additional suspects still on the run.
The allegedly stolen BMW that the intruders used for their escape was found abandoned on Christie Street in Deer Park. Police are urging anyone with information, or those who may have witnessed the incident or have CCTV footage, to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
The injured husband has been transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while his wife has received treatment for minor injuries. Fortunately, the two children and another adult present during the incident were unharmed.
