David Lynch, the influential filmmaker known for his work on Twin Peaks, is being celebrated for his humor and profound impact on the entertainment industry following his death at the age of 78 in January. Lynch passed away after years of health challenges related to chronic respiratory issues stemming from his history of smoking. His absence was noticeably felt during the recent Twin Peaks: Conversation With The Stars tour, which features cast members from the iconic television series he co-created with Mark Frost.

During a recent event in New York City, Sabrina S. Sutherland, a long-time collaborator and producer, shared insights into Lynch’s character. When asked to reveal something lesser-known about the director, she stated, “He was hysterically funny, like, all the time. And he would make me laugh every day ‘til I cried.” This tour, running from August to October 2023, aims to honor Lynch’s legacy while providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the beloved series.

Sutherland, who transitioned from a fan to a producer through a chance cold call, has worked on seasons two and three of Twin Peaks as well as Lynch’s 2006 film Inland Empire. Reflecting on Lynch’s personality, she described his humor as unexpectedly warm, adding, “That’s probably not what you expect of David Lynch, but that’s true. He’s a funny, funny guy.”

Lynch had expressed a desire to take part in the tour virtually, planning to engage with fans through Zoom. Sutherland noted, “David was going to be with us on this tour. He really wanted us to do this, and he was gonna Zoom in and answer some questions. Unfortunately, he passed away in January.”

Tributes from actors who worked closely with Lynch highlight his significant influence on their careers. Naomi Watts, who starred in both Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks: The Return, shared her gratitude on Instagram, stating he put her “on the map” and helped navigate the challenging landscape of the film industry. She wrote, “The world I’d been trying to break into for ten plus years, flunking auditions left and right. Finally, I sat in front of a curious man, beaming with light, speaking words from another era, making me laugh and feel at ease. I just cannot believe that he’s gone. I’m in pieces but forever grateful for our friendship.”

The Twin Peaks tour brings together other notable cast members, including Ray Wise, who portrayed Leland Palmer, Kimmy Robertson as Lucy Moran, and Harry Goaz as Deputy Andy Brennan. Additionally, Dana Ashbrook, known for his role as Bobby Briggs, and Sheryl Lee, who played Laura Palmer, will make appearances at select dates.

As fans gather to remember Lynch’s unique contributions to cinema and television, his legacy continues to resonate through the creative work and personal stories shared by those who knew him best. The celebration of his life and career serves as a reminder of the joy and inspiration he brought to countless individuals in the industry and beyond.
