URGENT UPDATE: Multiple cheese brands have been urgently recalled across Australian supermarkets due to a serious listeria contamination risk. The Australian Food Regulator announced this alarming recall on Friday, affecting a variety of soft cheeses including popular brands such as Mon Ami, Emborg, and Specialty Selected French L’ovale Cheese.
Consumers are advised to immediately dispose of seven different cheese types, including Mon Ami’s 200g brie, 200g camembert, 125g petit camembert, and 300g double cream le fromager. Emborg’s 200g brie and 200g camembert are also part of this urgent recall, which applies to products with date markings up to and including October 1, 2025.
The Food Standards alert strongly states, “Consumers should not eat this product.” The affected cheeses have been available for sale in major retailers such as Woolworths, Coles, IGA, and independent grocery stores nationwide. Affected customers can return these products for a full refund at their point of purchase.
Listeria infection can lead to severe health issues, particularly in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can manifest as fever, headache, diarrhea, or vomiting, but can escalate to life-threatening complications, including miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women. Reports indicate that pregnant women are 10 times more likely to contract a listeria infection compared to healthy adults, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Additionally, Specialty Selected French L’ovale and Emporium Selection cheeses are sold at ALDI stores across all Australian states and territories, and are included in this recall with the same date codes. The Buche Belle du Bocage, distributed by Washed Rind Pty Ltd, is also affected and available at independent retailers in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia.
The K-SEIN Pty Ltd brand of Buche Belle du Bocage was sold between July 30 and August 13 at the K-SEIN Fromagerie in Victoria. This widespread recall emphasizes the urgent need for consumers to stay vigilant and check their purchases against the listed products.
Officials are working diligently to ensure that all affected products are removed from shelves and that consumers are informed. The situation is ongoing, and further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
Stay safe and check your fridge now. If you have purchased any of the affected cheeses, please return them immediately for a refund and monitor your health for any potential symptoms.
