URGENT UPDATE: The historic Sons of Rest pavilion in Brinton Park, Kidderminster, is being demolished due to severe damage caused by local badgers. Built in 1938, this beloved structure is being replaced by a new community space featuring a café and outdoor terrace, marking a significant transformation for the park.

Just confirmed, the badgers have been successfully rehomed to a new artificial sett within the 32-acre public park, allowing construction to proceed swiftly. The work is part of a larger initiative that will see nearly £3 million invested in improvements to Brinton Park, enhancing both its aesthetic and functional appeal.

The Wyre Forest District Council, which oversees the park, has engaged contractor McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd to spearhead the redevelopment. A substantial portion of the funding—£2.4 million—is sourced from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, underscoring the project’s community importance.

Councillor Tracey Onslow, cabinet member for culture, leisure, arts, and community safety, stated, “Over the next 12 months, the park will see significant visual and practical improvements.” She emphasized that the Sons of Rest project is now underway, alongside the excavation of a new ornamental pool, which will occupy the site of the original paddling pool.

The comprehensive improvement programme includes refurbishing existing facilities, enhancing footpaths, and launching a new planting and landscaping scheme. These upgrades aim to enrich the park’s flora and fauna, revitalizing the green space for residents and visitors alike.

As work begins on this major redevelopment, local residents are encouraged to stay informed about ongoing changes. The transformation of Brinton Park is set to provide a modern community hub that will serve the area for generations to come.
