URGENT UPDATE: Students from the Whittlesea area are gearing up for the highly anticipated 2025 Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS), taking place on Saturday, September 13, with shows at 1 PM and 6:30 PM at John Cain Arena. This year, an impressive 2,500 Victorian students from 200 government schools will showcase their talents as circus artists, musicians, singers, and dancers, alongside those handling crucial behind-the-scenes roles.
The journey began in March, and now, students from schools including Lalor Secondary College, Edgars Creek Primary School, Morang South Primary School, and Mill Park Secondary College are ready to shine as principal vocalists, dancers, and stage managers.
Amelia from Lalor Secondary College, a principal dancer in her final year, expressed her excitement: “It’s always an amazing experience being part of something so special. I’m excited to learn new skills and techniques from the industry professionals.”
Behind the scenes, fellow student Annalise, also from Lalor, has participated for three years and is thrilled to return as rehearsal stage manager. “The Victorian State School Spectacular would be the highlight production that I’ve been involved in because of the scale of it,” she stated.
Honey from Mill Park Secondary College is stepping into a rehearsal stage manager role after previously participating in the mass dance. “I’m excited to navigate the pressure of stage management in order to build my skill in problem solving,” she shared. “I love to hear from professionals about their choice of pathways, combined with their experience backstage when they were my age.”
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the VSSS, featuring 42 musical items curated from student suggestions, including tracks from renowned artists like Sheppard, Max Richter, Queen, and Gotye. The orchestra will also perform specially commissioned original music by Kai Chen Lim.
As excitement builds, parents, educators, and community members are rallying to support these talented students. The event is not just a showcase of creativity; it represents a culmination of hard work and dedication over seven months.
With only days left until the performances, the buzz in the Whittlesea area is palpable. Don’t miss the chance to witness this extraordinary display of young talent and creativity at the Victorian State School Spectacular.
Stay tuned for updates as the event approaches, and be sure to share this incredible story of community and creativity!
