The Mundi Mundi Bash, Australia’s largest outback music festival, is set to embrace a Mad Max theme this year, attracting fans of the iconic post-apocalyptic film franchise. Festival-goers, dressed in outfits inspired by the movies, will gather at Belmont Station, located 9 kilometers north of Silverton and 35 kilometers from Broken Hill, New South Wales. This vibrant three-day event, scheduled to run from March 6 to March 8, 2025, promises a unique blend of music, culture, and community spirit.

Organized by promoter Greg Donovan, the festival will feature a dress-up competition where attendees can showcase their favorite Mad Max characters. With a backdrop of vintage cars reminiscent of the films, the event is open to all ages, making it a family-friendly celebration of Australian culture. “We’re officially at full capacity,” Donovan stated, highlighting the festival’s popularity as a BYO and dog-friendly event.

Musical Line-Up and Community Engagement

The Mundi Mundi Bash has become a key event for the local community, with approximately 15,000 attendees expected to converge on the festival grounds, creating a temporary city known as Mundiville. Donovan noted that the population of this pop-up city is “close to the size of Broken Hill itself.” The local community has embraced the festival, offering special activities and promotions for visitors before and after the event.

The festival’s programming is equally impressive, with a lineup that includes renowned Australian artists. The opening performance on Thursday will be delivered by Mick Thomas, followed by evening sets from Kasey Chambers and The Angels. On Friday, attendees can enjoy acts such as Birds of Tokyo and Missy Higgins, while Kate Ceberano, The Cat Empire, and Hoodoo Gurus will headline on Saturday.

One of the festival’s most cherished traditions, the Nutbush Dance World Record Attempt, will also take place this year, raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This unique component of the festival has become a highlight for participants and spectators alike.

Infrastructure and Future Developments

In preparation for the 2025 event, the New South Wales government has completed the last 2.5 kilometers of road leading to Belmont Station, enhancing accessibility for festival attendees. Donovan expressed enthusiasm for what lies ahead, stating, “We have an awesome line-up, but in many ways, the incredible landscape is the real headliner.”

The Mundi Mundi Bash not only celebrates music but also pays homage to the Mad Max legacy, particularly with activities referencing Furiosa, the latest installment in the franchise filmed on the festival grounds. As anticipation builds, the event is poised to deliver an unforgettable experience for fans and families alike, blending the spirit of music, community, and cinematic history under the vast Australian sky.
