BREAKING: In a remarkable display of community support, the annual Cause 4 Paws fundraiser raised over $20,000 for SAFE Broome, a local animal rescue organization. The event, held at Matso’s Brewery on August 9, 2023, attracted large crowds and showcased the community’s dedication to animal welfare.

The family-friendly gathering featured live music, face painting, children’s activities, a silent disco, and both raffles and auctions. Major auction items included a scenic flight with Air Kimberley, pearl jewelry from Willie Creek Pearls, and luxury accommodation at Moonlight Bay Suites. The excitement of the live auction drew significant attention as attendees bid on stunning prizes.

Funds from the event will directly support SAFE Broome’s crucial work in rehoming animals and preventing euthanasia. Sonya Debenham, the Broome branch coordinator, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming turnout and the funds raised. “It was an awesome result — we’re really happy about that,” she said. “Most of the money is going to go towards vet expenses — our vet bills per month are usually around $10,000-$15,000.”

Despite the success, Debenham highlighted the ongoing need for foster carers. “We’re always desperately short of foster carers. If anyone wants to help out by fostering an animal, that would be fantastic,” she urged. This call to action emphasizes the community’s role in sustaining the rescue efforts.

The significant contributions from local businesses, such as Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm and Broome Whale Watching, further demonstrate the collective commitment to animal welfare in the region. Volunteers were also present to showcase animals currently in foster care, encouraging attendees to consider fostering or adopting.

With the funds raised, SAFE Broome can enhance its resources, providing essential food, medical care, toys, and equipment for animals in need. The organization relies heavily on community events like this to sustain its operations, as adoption fees do not cover the full extent of veterinary costs.

For those looking to contribute further, donations can be made through the SAFE Broome website, where they also accept Containers for Change donations.

The success of Cause 4 Paws not only signifies a significant financial boost for SAFE Broome but also highlights the vital importance of community involvement in animal welfare. As the organization continues its mission, it remains hopeful for more support and foster carers in the future.
