Chinese Taipei triumphed in the Little League Baseball World Series by defeating Nevada 7-0, winning its first championship since 1996. The match took place on Sunday, August 27, 2023, in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, marking a significant achievement for the team after a 29-year title drought. This victory brings Chinese Taipei’s total championships to 18, making it the second most successful nation in the tournament’s history, trailing only the United States.

Lin Chin-Tse played a pivotal role in the championship game, delivering an outstanding performance on the mound. The 12-year-old right-handed pitcher retired the first 13 batters he faced and allowed just one hit over five innings. Lin’s fastball consistently exceeded 80 mph, a remarkable feat given the shorter distance to home plate at this level of play. His dominance on the mound was complemented by his offensive contribution; Lin hit a three-run triple during a five-run fifth inning, showcasing his all-around talent.

Chinese Taipei’s offensive strategy effectively exploited Nevada’s pitching missteps, taking advantage of four wild pitches and a passed ball throughout the game. Jian Zih-De initiated the scoring by drawing a walk in the second inning and later capitalizing on a wild pitch to score the team’s first run. Chen Shi-Rong added to the lead in the third inning, crossing the plate following a Nevada throwing error.

While Garrett Gallegos of Nevada broke up Lin’s perfect game with a single in the fifth inning, the team struggled to maintain momentum. Grayson Miranda’s line drive to second base resulted in a double play, further stifling any potential rally for Nevada. This was Nevada’s first appearance in a championship game, adding to the historical significance of the match.

The last international team to secure the title was Japan in 2017, underlining the competitive nature of the tournament. Chinese Taipei’s victory not only reflects its enduring legacy in Little League baseball but also revives a sense of pride for a nation that has consistently produced talented young players in the sport.

This championship victory is a testament to the dedication and skills of the players and coaching staff, and it sets a promising stage for future competitions.
