BREAKING NEWS: True North Copper has just announced a significant expansion of its drilling targets in Queensland, following a groundbreaking induced polarisation (IP) survey at the Aquila copper-silver-cobalt discovery. Located approximately 140 kilometers north of Mt Isa, this urgent development could reshape the mining landscape in the region.
The company is already drilling at the new targets, aiming to explore the full extent of the mineralised footprint. Recent results from a reverse circulation drilling program at Aquila hinted at a promising new copper discovery zone, prompting immediate action. True North’s latest IP survey has dramatically increased the geophysical trend at Aquila, now extending over 1.3 kilometers, a massive leap from the previous 250 meters. This expansion aligns with surface mineralisation identified on-site, raising hopes for a substantial find.
Remarkable drill results from earlier efforts revealed thick, high-grade copper intervals, including a standout hit of 145 meters grading 0.75% copper, 0.12% cobalt, and 2.9 grams per tonne (g/t) silver starting from 28 meters. Another significant section yielded 53 meters at 1.18% copper, 0.13% cobalt, and 3.6 g/t silver from a depth of 86 meters.
These results are just from the first three holes of the ongoing drill program, which kicked off in May. The company believes it is on the brink of discovering a district-scale mineral system at Mt Oxide, with three newly defined trends at its Aquila, Apollo, and Acanthis deposits. Notably, both Apollo and Acanthis show comparable or even stronger geophysical anomalies than those at Aquila, indicating vast potential.
True North’s management is optimistic that their systematic, data-driven approach will yield substantial resource growth and create significant value for the Mt Oxide project. The first-pass reverse circulation drilling at the southern end of the Apollo trend has already commenced, with five holes drilled over 1,350 meters. Assay results are expected in November.
Drilling operations at Mt Oxide are also resuming after targeting the Wallace North and Salebury prospects, located about 120 kilometers east of Mt Isa. Assay results from these areas are pending, heightening anticipation for further discoveries.
The recent IP survey, conducted by Australian Geophysical Services, covered 5.6 line kilometers to refine the targets identified in a Queensland Government-funded program from 2024. The survey pinpointed Aquila as a high-priority target for chargeability and conductivity, aimed at uncovering potential mineralisation beneath leached gossan zones.
Aquila is geographically close to the company’s Vero copper-silver-cobalt resource, which boasts 15.03 million tonnes grading 1.46% copper, equating to 220,000 tonnes of copper and over 5 million ounces of silver. Additionally, the resource includes a notable 9.15 million tonnes of cobalt at a grade of 0.23%.
The Mt Oxide project is primed for exploration, as many prospects have never undergone modern drilling techniques. Historical connections to the Mt Gordon mine, active in the 1950s and 1960s, reveal a legacy of rich deposits. Historical records indicate that 824 tonnes of ore produced 90.4 tonnes of copper, suggesting an extraordinary grade of 11%.
True North Copper is gearing up for a series of optimally positioned drill holes to validate its geophysical models and explore extensions of high-grade copper identified at Aquila. The company plans to conduct step-out drilling both north and south of the discovery zone, indicating a robust exploration strategy in the making.
With a flurry of targets emerging from the Mt Oxide project, alongside promising developments at the Cloncurry project, which is estimated to host over 101,000 tonnes of copper and 76,000 ounces of gold, True North Copper is a junior explorer to watch closely.
