Baylor College of Medicine celebrated its remarkable milestone of 125 years during the event titled “On the Frontline: 125 Years at the Forefront of Medicine, Science and Education” on March 14, 2024. The luncheon, held at The Revaire, brought together healthcare leaders, alumni, supporters, and friends to honour the institution’s significant contributions to the medical field.

The event showcased Baylor’s impressive legacy of medical innovations while also emphasizing its ongoing commitment to shaping the future of healthcare through extensive research, education, and patient care. Guests participated in a panel discussion featuring prominent figures from the institution, including Dr. Paul Klotman, President & CEO and Executive Dean, alongside Dr. Hashem El-Serag, Dr. Gustavo Oderich, and Dr. Joseph Rogers. The panel provided insights into Baylor’s contemporary breakthroughs in areas such as big data analytics, cardiovascular surgery, and precision medicine.

Reflecting on his long-standing involvement with Baylor, board member Marc Shapiro expressed, “Having had the privilege of serving on Baylor’s Board of Trustees for many years, I’ve seen firsthand how this institution continues to grow and lead. Baylor has been home to countless medical marvels throughout its history, and it’s inspiring to witness how those breakthroughs are still happening today and shaping the future of healthcare.”

A poignant moment in the program featured Theresa Blades, a patient whose life was saved by the expertise of the Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine. Blades credited the dedicated researchers, physicians, and nurses who developed and implemented the life-saving innovations that allowed her to spend more time with her husband and children. Grateful for her treatment, she and her family have chosen to support Baylor in its future advancements.

“Theresa’s story demonstrates how Baylor’s impact goes beyond discoveries – it changes lives,” Klotman remarked. “Our ability to respond to urgent needs and invest in bold ideas ensures that patients and families everywhere can experience the very best of modern medicine.”

As the luncheon concluded, attendees raised their glasses in a celebratory toast to mark Baylor’s significant 125th anniversary. The event served as a tribute to the institution’s past achievements, current innovations, and its enduring promise to provide healthier tomorrows for patients and families worldwide.
