urgent-recall-dangerous-blender-could-activate-unexpectedly

URGENT UPDATE: A major safety recall has been announced for a portable blender sold at Kmart and Target across Australia, following reports of serious injuries linked to its malfunctioning blades. The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) confirmed that the blender can activate unexpectedly, posing a severe risk to users.

The ACCC’s announcement came after injuries were already reported due to the exposed blades, which can turn on without pressing the ON/OFF button if the base is submerged in water. “There is a risk of serious injury, including laceration from the exposed blades, if the product self-activates,” the commission warned.

Available in four colors—white, blue, green, and lilac—the blender has been on the market since January 23, 2025, and has been sold both in stores and online through the retailers’ apps. Customers are advised to stop using the product immediately and keep it away from any water sources.

The ACCC urges customers to return the blender to the place of purchase for a full refund. If they encounter difficulties in returning the product, including if it has been sold or gifted to someone else, they should contact the respective retailer directly.

For Kmart customers, refunds and returns can be organized by calling 1800 124 125 Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (AEST) or online at https://www.kmart.com.au/contact-us. Target customers can reach out at 1300 753 567 during their hours of operation, which are Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (AEST) and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (AEST), or visit https://www.target.com.au/help/contact-us.

This recall serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with household appliances. The ACCC encourages anyone with questions about the recall or concerns regarding the products to reach out for clarification.
