UPDATE: A tow truck driver transformed a routine call-out into a dramatic rescue mission after a heartbreaking discovery on Manns Road in West Gosford on Wednesday. Rex, an employee of Adams Towing, spotted a distressed mother duck frantically quacking and flapping her wings, leading him to investigate a nearby drain.
Rex described the scene as “distressing” and jumped into action immediately. “I knew something was wrong… she was very distressed,” he recounted. Upon inspecting the drain, he was shocked to find 11 baby ducklings trapped inside, looking up at him with innocent eyes.
Realizing he couldn’t open the drain alone, Rex quickly called the local fire department for assistance. Photos reveal firefighters in the drain, carefully lifting each duckling to safety as Rex helped by holding them in a bucket.
“I assisted the fire brigade by holding each duckling one by one as he lifted them out from the drain,” Rex explained. “The mumma duck was watching very closely whilst I was doing this.” The successful teamwork culminated in the safe relocation of the ducklings to a nearby creek, where they waddled off together as a happy family.
This heartwarming rescue has drawn widespread admiration from the community. Local residents have flooded social media with praise for Rex’s quick thinking and compassion. “People are delighted with the outcome,” Ashleigh said. “Our staff care strongly about animals and nature, supporting our local wildlife.” One woman commented, “Huge accolades to the driver… to notice the stressed mumma duck, to investigate, and then to get help for those babies.” Another added, “What an awesome tow truck driver. Thank you for finding these babies and doing something to help them!”
