UPDATE: A mother-of-two’s former partner has been charged with her murder just seven months after her body was discovered in the Brisbane River. Authorities confirmed that Jesse Beale, 49, was arrested on Monday during a police operation in the Gold Coast hinterland, intensifying the search for answers in the tragic case of Crystal Beale.
Crystal Beale, 49, was last seen leaving a family dinner at approximately 8:30 PM on February 21, 2023. Initially, her death was deemed not suspicious after she was found by a rower in the Brisbane River early on February 22. However, a homicide investigation was launched following a post-mortem examination, which revealed her body had been in the water for around six hours.
Police have been actively seeking public assistance to piece together the events leading to her death. Investigators discovered one of Ms. Beale’s sandals in shrubbery in Brisbane’s West End, and several personal items at nearby Orleigh Park. They meticulously reviewed over 1,000 hours of CCTV footage to trace her last movements.
Following his arrest, Jesse Beale was charged with domestic violence-related murder and misconduct with a corpse. He appeared briefly in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today, where his solicitor, Lewis Hunter, requested an adjournment. Magistrate Judith Daley has remanded him in custody, with the next court date set for October 22. No bail application was made during the hearing.
Detective Inspector Wayne Francis expressed the emotional toll the case has taken on family and friends, stating, “Over the past seven months, detectives have been tirelessly investigating every avenue possible to find answers.” He emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to deliver justice for Crystal Beale.
