north-cyprus-turkish-community-receives-7-500-grant-for-new-center

UPDATE: The North Cyprus Turkish Community of Victoria has just been awarded a $7,500 grant from the federal government’s Stronger Communities Program, paving the way for an exciting new project. Community members are mobilizing to transform this funding into a multipurpose space designed to cater to a wide range of students.

President Dr. Lutfiye Ali expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This space will promote inclusive participation from students of all ages.” The initiative aims to enhance engagement among the younger demographic within the community, aligning with the organization’s mission to foster connections.

Established in 1956, the center has been a cornerstone for the Cypriot Turkish community in Victoria for over 70 years. “It has been the heart of our community,” Dr. Ali emphasized, highlighting the center’s role in celebrating cultural traditions.

The grant comes at a crucial time, as community organizations often rely on such funding to support their volunteer-driven efforts. “Grants like these bring projects to life and unite our community—not just through the outcome, but through the collaborative process,” Dr. Ali noted.

The project is set to create a welcoming environment for pre-school, school, and university students. This initiative will not only enhance educational opportunities but also serve as a hub for social connection, involving students, parents, and volunteers in the design and construction phases.

As the community gears up to break ground, the excitement is palpable. Dr. Ali stated, “The act of designing and building together fosters social connection and creates valuable volunteering opportunities.”
