BREAKING: Eliza Hargreave is making headlines as she embarks on her coaching journey, officially debuting as the senior coach for Rand-Walbundrie-Walla in the 2026 Hume league season. This unexpected opportunity marks a pivotal moment in her netball career, previously highlighted by her achievements as a two-time best and fairest winner.
In an emotional statement, Hargreave expressed her surprise and gratitude: “I never thought I would be in this position, but it’s really nice that they have faith in me and have given me this opportunity.” Her transition into coaching comes after years of experience, having played with elite teams and absorbed knowledge from distinguished coaches throughout her career.
Hargreave is not alone in this new chapter; her partner, Tom Hargreave, was also recently appointed as the senior football co-coach for the club. “We’ll both be jumping in the deep end together,” she shared, emphasizing the mutual support they will provide each other in their respective roles.
Having joined the Lavington netball club at just 14 years old, Hargreave’s journey has been impressive. She spent four seasons with Thurgoona in the Tallangatta and District Netball Association, where she earned a spot on the TDNA Team of the Year in 2024. Most recently, she returned to the Ovens and Murray competition with the Panthers this year, stating, “I have learnt so much this season under Sarah Meredith’s coaching.”
As Hargreave steps into her new role, she replaces outgoing coach Samara Trethowan, who faced challenges last season, leading the team to a 10th place finish on the A-grade ladder amidst injuries. The club recently celebrated Jess Kotzur, who took home the best and fairest award after her return this season.
This coaching role represents a significant milestone for Hargreave and the Rand-Walbundrie-Walla community, as they look forward to the upcoming season with renewed hope and excitement. With an enthusiastic outlook and a commitment to sharing her knowledge, Hargreave is ready to lead her team to new heights.
Stay tuned for more updates as Hargreave prepares for her first season as a coach, a journey that promises to inspire both players and fans alike.
