A veteran Loch Ness Monster enthusiast, Eoin O’Faodhagain, experienced a remarkable moment when he spotted an unidentified large creature in Scotland’s famed Loch Ness on September 23, 2023. O’Faodhagain, who is 61 years old and hails from County Donegal, Ireland, was monitoring the loch through a webcam when the incident occurred.

Unusual Sighting Raises Questions

According to O’Faodhagain, he observed a massive creature, described as brown-black in color, emerging from the water’s surface and creating a peculiar circular motion. He expressed his bewilderment, stating, “I saw a large creature, brown-black in color, just breaking the surface, creating a strange circular movement. I was puzzled, wondering what this spectacle was that was unfolding in front of my eyes. I had never seen movement like this before – it was very strange and fascinating.”

The sighting was recorded using a webcam located at the Clansman Hotel, which is operated by Visit Inverness Loch Ness (VILN). In the video, a long, dark shape is visible near the shore. O’Faodhagain estimated the figure to be approximately 17 feet long and 5 feet wide.

Highlighting the rarity of such sightings, O’Faodhagain remarked, “There are no known creatures in the loch that are that size. I think it could be one of the Nessie family.” He noted that the sighting reminded him of footage from the 1992 documentary, The Secrets of Loch Ness, which featured a similar swirling shape. However, he maintained that his footage is distinct due to the calmness of the water and the absence of any wakes or boat activity prior to the sighting.

Unique Footage Sparks Curiosity

As a long-time enthusiast, O’Faodhagain has contributed numerous entries to the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register. He stated that this particular sighting stands out from all others he has recorded. “What makes this sighting unique is that there is no other footage like it ever recorded. The researchers of Loch Ness might have a difficult task explaining this footage to the wider world,” he added.
