UPDATE: A shocking police pursuit unfolded on the Pacific Highway on September 26, 2023, when authorities allege a pregnant teenager drove at a staggering 168 km/h with a 10-month-old baby in the car. The driver, Kirsty Lee Parker, 19, is now facing serious charges following a chaotic chase that ended with her abandoning the vehicle.
The high-speed incident began near Gosford in the afternoon as police attempted to stop Parker’s Volkswagen sedan. The pursuit escalated quickly, prompting police to abandon the chase due to safety concerns after a passenger climbed out of the window to film the event. Social media footage captured the terrifying scene, with passengers yelling and swearing at police while loud music blared in the background. One disturbing clip even shows the baby secured in a car seat, seemingly unfazed by the chaos around them.
During the wild ride, Parker allegedly crashed into another vehicle and swerved to avoid police road spikes set up in the Lake Macquarie towns of Swansea and Pelican. The chase ended with Parker and her four adult passengers abandoning the vehicle in Windale, approximately 14 kilometers south-west of Newcastle and 80 kilometers from where the pursuit began.
Parker has since been charged with multiple offenses, including driving 45 km/h over the speed limit as a learner, driving recklessly and dangerously, and failing to comply with police directions. She is also accused of allowing passengers to ride in the vehicle without seatbelts. The other passengers were released without charge.
After being denied bail on Wednesday, Parker applied for bail conditions requiring her to report daily to Blacktown police station, live at an address in Seven Hills, and avoid contact with her passengers. Legal Aid lawyer Adam Ryan revealed that Parker is 11 weeks pregnant, adding an emotional layer to this alarming case.
Authorities are now investigating the full circumstances of this reckless driving incident, raising serious questions about the safety of the child involved. As the situation develops, police are urging the public to share any additional information they may have.
