
URGENT UPDATE: A dramatic incident unfolded outside the Maroochydore Police Station on the Sunshine Coast late Friday night when police fired multiple shots at a man who allegedly lunged at them wielding a knife. The confrontation occurred around 8:50 PM as two officers returned to their patrol car.
According to authorities, a white Mercedes sedan violently rammed into the rear of the police vehicle. The driver, a 53-year-old Eumundi man, exited the car and reportedly threatened the officers before lunging towards them with the weapon.
In response to the imminent threat, police fired approximately five shots at the man. He was subsequently subdued with a taser by a third responding officer. Fortunately, no officers were injured during this alarming encounter.
“This incident will be thoroughly investigated by the Ethical Standards Command,” police stated.
The man was arrested and faces serious charges including endangering a police officer, going armed to cause fear, and possession of a weapon. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday.
