UPDATE: The highly anticipated Moonbear Convenience and Cafe has officially opened its doors on Crown Street in Wollongong, serving up an exciting array of Korean street food and sweet corn gelato. The cafe, launched on November 2, 2023, is already experiencing an overwhelming response from the community.

As soon as you step inside, a vibrant wall of ramen options greets you, with flavors ready to customize your noodle experience. Owner Jae Park emphasizes the uniqueness of this concept in Wollongong, stating, “We wanted to bring something different to the region.” The menu features beloved dishes such as fried chicken, skewers, and topokki—a popular rice cake dish—alongside traditional Korean kimbap, resembling sushi.

“This area has been really quiet at night, but with places like Yo-Chi attracting more people, we hope to brighten the local food scene,” Park added. He noted that the cafe’s opening has sparked significant interest, with many locals already familiar with items like Buldak ramen, cold noodles, and various types of udon.

The cafe also offers innovative pouch drinks that add a refreshing twist to any meal. Park mentioned, “We have so many options, including black bean noodles and Japanese miso noodles. The variety will surprise everyone.”

The journey to opening Moonbear started in November of last year, with Park navigating the development application process for the heritage-listed building. The positive feedback from customers has exceeded expectations, creating excitement for the future of this location.

With such a strong community response, Moonbear is set to become a go-to spot for both locals and visitors. Residents are encouraged to check out the cafe and experience the fresh and unique offerings that have quickly made a mark on Wollongong’s culinary landscape.
