URGENT UPDATE: A groundbreaking new survey reveals that an overwhelming 79% of Australians strongly support the nation’s relationship with Japan, highlighting a “very high” level of trust between the two countries. Conducted by communications firm SEC Newgate, this survey is pivotal as it coincides with the 62nd annual Australia Japan Business Cooperation Committee conference taking place in Perth from October 15 to 17, 2023.

The survey, which included 1,200 Australians, underscores the critical importance of Japan to Australia’s future. Almost 60% of respondents expressed positive sentiments regarding Japanese companies investing in Australia, with 48% recognizing it as beneficial for national interests. Respondents cited the development of new technologies and innovations as significant reasons for their optimism.

Brian Tyson, chair of SEC Newgate Australia, emphasized the survey’s findings, stating, “The levels of trust are very high.” He noted that participants highlighted Japan’s cultural and political alignment with Australia, describing it as a “dependable and trustworthy partner” with a proven history of fair dealings. Many Australians appreciate Japan’s reputation for delivering high-quality products and technology.

As the conference kicks off, it will bring together 350 senior business and government delegates from Japan and over 300 delegates from Australia, fostering discussions on investment opportunities and collaborations. The West Australian Government has successfully attracted significant Japanese investment, with Premier Cook recently reinforcing the importance of this relationship during a visit to Japan.

The survey results are timely as they reflect the strong sentiment and mutual respect between the two nations. With Japan’s strategic importance in areas like technology and energy resources, both countries stand to benefit from enhanced cooperation.

As this conference unfolds, the focus will be on how to further strengthen ties and explore new avenues for collaboration. Stakeholders are encouraged to monitor developments closely as this relationship continues to evolve, shaping the economic landscape for both nations.

Stay tuned for more updates as the conference progresses and more insights from the survey emerge. This is a crucial moment for Australia and Japan, and the implications of these findings could resonate for years to come.
