The latest episode of “My Kitchen Rules” (MKR) showcased a stunning surf and turf dish prepared by contestants Amy and Lara. This culinary delight featured succulent lobster tails and perfectly cooked eye fillet steaks, offering a gourmet experience that viewers could replicate at home.
Surf and Turf Ingredients
The dish required a selection of high-quality ingredients. For the lobster, Amy and Lara used two lobster tails, halved lengthways, along with 25 grams of butter and two crushed garlic cloves. To enhance the flavor, they added the finely grated zest of one lemon. Grilled asparagus and lime wedges were served on the side, adding a fresh touch to the meal. To elevate the dish, truffle paste and gold leaf were also included.
For the truffle mash, the chefs prepared 1 kilogram of Yukon Gold or Dutch Cream potatoes, peeled and halved. They combined these with 125 milliliters of thickened cream, 25 grams of butter, and two teaspoons of truffle oil.
The creamy sauce featured one tablespoon of olive oil, three crushed garlic cloves, 250 milliliters of dry white wine, 125 milliliters of chicken stock, and another 125 milliliters of thickened cream, ensuring a rich flavor profile.
Steak Preparation Techniques
When it came to the steaks, Amy and Lara used four eye fillet steaks, each weighing 300 grams, which were brought to room temperature before cooking. They heated one tablespoon of olive oil in a pan, followed by 25 grams of butter, and added four sliced garlic cloves, along with one tablespoon each of rosemary leaves and thyme leaves for seasoning.
For a perfect result, they utilized a sous-vide method, cooking the steaks at 47°C for two hours prior to searing. This technique ensured an even cook throughout the meat, making it tender and flavorful. For those who prefer a more traditional approach, the recipe can easily be adapted for home cooking without sous-vide equipment.
As viewers tuned in to “My Kitchen Rules,” the episode not only highlighted remarkable cooking skills but also offered an opportunity for audiences to recreate this impressive surf and turf dish in their own kitchens. The combination of lobster and steak, paired with truffle-infused sides, exemplified gourmet dining, inspiring home cooks to experiment with sophisticated flavors.
