As the warmer months approach, the Scenic Rim region of Queensland is introducing a diverse array of innovative beverages for the Spring and Summer seasons. From artisanal Agave spirits to invigorating cocktails, local distillers and brewers are embracing the season with refreshing offerings that celebrate the unique flavors of the area.
New Releases from Local Distillers
The Cauldron Distillery, located at 89-123 Hartley Road in Tamborine Mountain, has launched three new Australian Agave spirits. This distillery is known for its handcrafted small-batch spirits and warm hospitality. Guests can enjoy stone-baked pizzas and signature cocktails, as well as live music every weekend. The new Agave spirits are crafted from the heart of the agave plant and reflect the distinctive characteristics of Australia’s climate.
In addition to the Agave offerings, the Tamborine Mountain Distillery has unveiled its latest creation, the Bergamotcello. This bright citrus liqueur, made with bergamot, brings zesty and floral notes reminiscent of Earl Grey tea. It can be enjoyed neat, over ice, or as an elegant addition to cocktails, enhancing drinks like Spritzes and Citrus Sours.
Innovative Brews and Unique Spirits
At the Loborn Distillery, located at North Stores, 48 Main Street, the founder Tom Drewett has crafted a modern amaro that draws on local Australian botanicals. This innovative spirit pays homage to the traditional Italian bitter aperitif while incorporating flavors unique to Tamborine Mountain. Visitors can try the Elderflower Spring Spritz, a refreshing cocktail that highlights the distillery’s commitment to local ingredients.
The Commercial Hotel Boonah, along with its microbrewery, Boonah Brewing Company, is another highlight in the Scenic Rim. This family-owned establishment emphasizes sustainability, utilizing pure spring water from their farm and repurposing spent grains to feed livestock. Their Spring offerings include a range of locally brewed beers that complement the region’s culinary delights.
For those looking for something truly unique, Summer Land Camels offers a Camel Milk Vodka & Peach Spritz. This southern hemisphere’s largest camel dairy creates distinctive spirits using camel milk, garnering numerous awards for their products. The refreshing Spring sip is recommended as an aperitif, perfect for enjoying on a deck at sunset alongside antipasti or light snacks.
The Overflow Estate 1895, situated at 1660 Beaudesert-Boonah Road, produces small-batch wines, including the anticipated Rosé 2025 and Pinot Grigio 2024. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Wyaralong Dam while sampling these wines, which are available from Thursday to Sunday.
As the Scenic Rim continues to gain recognition as a premier destination, having been named one of the hottest places to visit by Lonely Planet in 2022, it remains a hub for gourmet experiences and unique beverages. With its rich volcanic soil, breathtaking landscapes, and a vibrant community of farmers and food creators, the region is poised to delight visitors with its seasonal offerings.
