The recent WA Buggy Hire SXS Spring Shootout at Carco.com.au Raceway in Neerabup concluded with an exhilarating showdown, as drivers Terrence Flynn-Dowell and Ella Martin claimed victory amid fierce competition. Their triumph came at the expense of rivals Craig Moss and Bryan McGann, who faced significant challenges, including managing flat tyres during the final heat. In a dramatic finish, John Hodgson and Corne De Wit secured third place, edging out Chris and Jess Della Pollina in a nail-biting contest.
As event organisers at Off Road Racing WA gear up for the 2026 season, they are also preparing for the upcoming Black Diamond Drilling Kalgoorlie Desert Race. This event, which is the final round of the BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Australian Off Road Racing Championship and the Motorsport Australia Western Australian Off Road Racing Championship, is scheduled to run from October 23-26, 2024.
The festivities will commence on October 23 with a street party at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club, allowing fans to get close to the racing vehicles. The main racing action is set to unfold at Mt Vetters Station, located approximately 20 kilometers north of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. On October 24, a special Dash for Cash event will feature ten of the fastest teams racing on a shortened 3-kilometer course, with $5,000 in prize money at stake.
The primary race days will occur on Saturday and Sunday, where drivers will tackle a single lap of the 121-kilometer course on Saturday, followed by two laps on Sunday. This year’s event has attracted an impressive 102 entries from across Australia, along with one competitor from New Zealand, solidifying its status as one of the country’s largest off-road racing events.
Participants will include not only SXS competitors from the recent Shootout but also a variety of other classes. These will range from production-based two-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles to specialized pro buggies and trophy trucks. Additionally, a separate bike event will feature 175 motorbikes competing in their own category.
The SXS Spring Shootout showcased the passion and competitive spirit of off-road racing, setting an exciting precedent for the upcoming Kalgoorlie Desert Race. With a growing number of entries and a diverse array of vehicles, the event is poised to deliver thrilling action for both competitors and fans alike.
