UPDATE: More than $200,000 has been raised for Telethon 2025 during the Perth Running Festival, as thousands of participants hit the pavement on Sunday. This incredible amount will directly support vital medical research and life-changing opportunities for Western Australia’s sickest children.

Among the 15,200 participants was Xavier Summers, a Little Telethon Star, who completed the 10km course in his wheelchair, assisted by his uncle, Shannan Brown. The eight-year-old expressed his joy upon crossing the finish line at Optus Stadium, stating, “I was really happy. People were stopping and giving me high-fives . . . I really liked that.”

Mr. Brown, 43, described a memorable moment of their journey through the Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel, highlighting its uniqueness. “It’s not something that everyone gets to do, and it’s very different and very exciting for him,” he said. This was Mr. Brown’s first experience running behind a wheelchair, which he compared to a “10km sled push,” emphasizing the challenges of managing a non-purpose-built chair.

Another inspiring group, “Team Mateo,” consisting of 37 runners, raised over $27,000 in honor of Mateo Domazetovski, one of this year’s Telethon champions. Mateo, a six-year-old diagnosed with a low-grade glioma, participated in a 4km run alongside his mother, Ceffra Domazetovski. “It was amazing; the day was incredible,” she said, reflecting on their triumphant finish. Mateo echoed her sentiments, describing the experience as “amazing.”

The emotional impact of the event was evident as Nia Collova, 12, and her mother, Sarah Collova, also celebrated their finish. Nia has faced challenges since being diagnosed with Dup15q Syndrome at just 16 months old, a rare genetic disorder resulting in various health issues.

This year’s Perth Running Festival not only showcased athleticism but also highlighted the community’s commitment to making a difference. All proceeds from the event will fund groundbreaking medical research, essential equipment, and transformative opportunities for children in need across WA.

As the event wraps up, supporters and participants are encouraged to keep the momentum going, sharing their stories and contributions to Telethon 2025. The funds raised will empower families and bring hope to countless children battling serious health challenges.

Stay tuned for more developments as Telethon continues to make a significant impact in the lives of Western Australian children.
