Robert Irwin has announced that his beloved dog, Stella, has undergone surgery for cancer. The wildlife advocate shared this news while in the United States, where he is currently competing on the reality television show, Dancing With The Stars. Irwin described the experience as “stressful,” particularly given the distance from his home in Australia.
In a heartfelt message, the 21-year-old posted a black-and-white image of himself with Stella on social media. He explained, “A mass was discovered that ended up being cancerous. We still don’t know the full extent of the cancer. I have faith she’ll be in the clear.” Stella, a pug, has her own social media following, boasting 137,000 followers on Instagram, where Robert frequently shares moments with her.
Stella has been a prominent part of the Irwin family life, often appearing alongside Robert and his sister, Bindi Irwin, since childhood. Bindi has also noted Stella’s strong spirit, referring to her as a “strong and beautiful little soul.” The family is currently in the U.S. to support Robert during his participation in the competition.
Robert expressed the emotional toll of being away from Stella during this challenging time. “It’s been stressful to say the least being away from home and away from her while she goes through this,” he said. He provided an update on her recovery, noting, “She is doing okay post-surgery so far. She’s my little bestie and one tough cookie.”
Support has poured in for Robert from his fellow cast members on Dancing With The Stars. Actress and co-star Danielle Fishel offered her prayers for Stella’s recovery, stating, “Robert, I’m praying for your sweet Stella to make a full recovery.” Another co-star, Whitney Leavitt, expressed her sympathy, saying, “I’m so sorry. Praying she makes a full recovery.”
