Country music artist Leah Briggs will return to her hometown for a special one-night-only performance on November 1, 2023. The launch event for her new album, titled Peace, Love, Forgiveness, will take place at the Beachport Hotel, featuring renowned musician Matt James and other special guests.
Briggs, who was born in Mount Gambier and raised in Beachport, expressed her excitement about returning home for this significant occasion. She attended the Kangaroo Inn Area School before moving to various states such as Tasmania, Victoria, and Queensland. Despite these relocations, Briggs has always felt a strong connection to her roots in Beachport.
“It means the world to me to be able to come home to launch something that I have made,” Briggs said. “I am really looking forward to coming back to my roots and my family and friends to release this album.”
Recording for the album took place in September 2023, with Bill Chambers, a musician originally from Southend, at the helm in his studio located in New South Wales. “This will be my first full album of original tracks with some co-writes on there with Bill,” Briggs explained. She noted the influence of the Dead Ringer Band and Kasey Chambers on her music as she grew up, highlighting her long-standing relationship with Chambers as both a friend and mentor.
“It is always nice to get to work with Bill,” she added. “He knows my stuff and we resonate musically on that level.”
Briggs’ upcoming album serves as a sequel to her earlier work, the six-track EP Save Me, which was released in 2015. This new album reflects her life’s journey and growth as an artist, marking a significant milestone in her career.
The Beachport performance promises to be a heartfelt reunion for Briggs, celebrating not only her musical achievements but also her deep ties to the community that shaped her. With anticipation building for the event, fans are eager to join her in this special celebration of music and homecoming.
