Super Retail Group has appointed Paul Bradshaw as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, 2023. This appointment follows the dismissal of former CEO Anthony Heraghty, who was removed amid allegations concerning an inappropriate relationship with a former employee. The situation has drawn significant attention, particularly given the ongoing workplace controversies surrounding the company.

The board acted after discovering that Heraghty had not fully disclosed the nature of his relationship with Jane Kelly, the former head of human resources. These allegations came to light amidst workplace litigation initiated in April by two former senior executives who claimed that Heraghty engaged in an illicit relationship with Kelly. Initially, the board publicly supported Heraghty during this legal dispute, but the circumstances led them to reassess their position.

Bradshaw previously led Super Retail’s Boating, Camping, Fishing division, and his transition into the top role comes at a challenging time for the retailer. The controversy is compounded by additional legal action against Super Retail. Former employee Renai Williams has filed a claim with the Fair Work Commission, alleging that the company took unlawful action against her during her tenure for exercising her workplace rights.

The matter will first undergo mediation at the Commission, with the potential for escalation to the Federal Court if a resolution is not reached. This ongoing legal situation highlights the difficulties faced by Super Retail as it navigates these serious allegations while attempting to stabilize its leadership.

As Bradshaw steps into his new role, he will be tasked with addressing the fallout from these controversies and steering the company towards a more stable future. His leadership will be closely watched as Super Retail seeks to rebuild trust both internally among employees and externally with consumers.
