BREAKING: In a dramatic Australia-wide operation, authorities have seized over 1,000 firearms and parts, leading to nearly 200 arrests. This major crackdown, spearheaded by the Australian Border Force (ABF), uncovered a shocking array of weapons, including 281 privately manufactured or 3D-printed firearms.
During a raid in Gosford, NSW, officers discovered a 3D printer, three Glock-style pistols, 3D-printed holsters, and an imitation revolver. A 52-year-old man was arrested at the scene and now faces 14 firearms-related charges. This operation highlights the evolving nature of illegal weapons manufacturing in Australia, as noted by NSW Police Detective Superintendent John Watson, who stated, “criminals are innovating, but so are police.”
Authorities confirmed that across the nation, 184 arrests were made, resulting in 854 charges laid. The ABF reported the seizure of 719 whole firearms, 489 parts, and 64 imitation firearms, alongside significant amounts of cash and drugs totaling $250,000.
Further searches in Kotara yielded two rifles, three revolvers, an automatic pistol, and 1,000 rounds of ammunition. In Belfield, police confiscated various weapons, including BB guns and slingshots, along with 3,700 rounds of ammunition and pepper spray. In Mandurah, WA, a raid led to the discovery of a homemade shotgun and firearm manufacturing components, resulting in the arrest of a 38-year-old man, who will appear in court on November 7.
Commander Graeme Campbell of the Border Force emphasized the success of this “sophisticated, intelligence-led” operation, stating, “We work closely with our partner agencies to disrupt criminals seeking to obtain illegal firearms.” He cautioned that many of these weapons are easily accessible online, misleading the public about their regulation.
This urgent crackdown serves as a stark reminder of the threats posed by illegal firearms and the ongoing collaborative efforts of law enforcement to protect the Australian community. As the investigation unfolds, authorities continue to monitor and disrupt the networks supplying these dangerous items.
