UPDATE: Renowned artist Yoonjung Kim is set to unveil her highly anticipated solo exhibition, ‘Interwoven’, on October 24, 2023, at the Bowery Gallery in St Albans. This exhibition marks Kim’s first solo showcase since relocating from Melbourne to Seoul in 2020 and promises to offer a deeply emotional experience for attendees.

Kim’s latest works explore the intricate connections between memory and emotion, utilizing painterly gestures inspired by various elements found in Melbourne’s western suburbs. “The ribbon motif is central to my work,” Kim explained. “It serves as a structure to hold and express my emotions and memories.”

The exhibition features a unique ribbon motif, a familiar object to Kim that evokes a range of sentiments, from joy and celebration to the weight of social expectations. “I wanted to create a sense of nostalgia and warmth, while also reflecting the anxiety that often accompanies childhood memories,” she stated.

Visitors to ‘Interwoven’ will have the opportunity to engage with Kim’s art from October 24, 2023, until January 10, 2024. The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.

Kim hopes her work will inspire audiences to reflect on their own lives. “I want them to find their own memories through my paintings,” she said. “Art should resonate personally, allowing each viewer to connect with their own experiences.”

Supported by the Brimbank Council, ‘Interwoven’ is not just an exhibition; it’s a journey into the emotional landscapes shaped by memory. For more details, visit creativebrimbank.com.au.
