BREAKING: Two individuals have been arrested in a stolen vehicle after a failed attempt to refuel at a petrol station in Victoria. Authorities in the Wodonga and Wangaratta areas reported the incident involving a stolen grey Ford Ranger taken from Albury on October 22.
The stolen vehicle was spotted driving north from Wangaratta on the same day, traveling to Rutherglen. The driver and his female passenger arrived at a Shell petrol station but were unable to refuel as the pump was deactivated. They then proceeded to Barnawartha North, where police apprehended them without incident at a BP petrol station.
Police seized the stolen vehicle, and both suspects were questioned and subsequently charged with offences that include handling and receiving stolen goods, as well as possessing a controlled weapon. The driver is set to appear in court on February 10, while his passenger is also expected to face court on the same date.
This incident comes amidst a troubling wave of crime in the region. In related news, a man has been sentenced to over four years in prison for driving an unconscious woman from Wodonga to Beechworth, where he raped her in the back seat of his car.
Additionally, a court has heard about a drink-driver who fled the scene after crashing into a fence, leaving his front plate behind. He expressed concerns about how this incident could affect his residency status in the country.
As authorities continue to crack down on crime, residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. More updates on these cases are expected as investigations proceed. Stay tuned for the latest developments.
