UPDATE: On October 21, 2025, Wyreema State School celebrated its 130th anniversary in a vibrant community event, marking a remarkable turnaround for a school once threatened with closure. The celebration brought together current and former students, staff, parents, and local dignitaries, creating an atmosphere of joy and nostalgia.
The festivities kicked off with an official ceremony, where Pat Weir, Member for Condamine, and Geoff McDonald, Mayor of Toowoomba Region, highlighted the school’s critical role in the community. Mayor McDonald emphasized, “Small schools are the heart of our community, where life-long memories are made,” underscoring the significance of Wyreema State School in fostering local connections.
The event was organized by the school’s Parents and Citizens Association, led by President Andrea Carthoys, who welcomed guests and introduced student Alicia Sly for an Acknowledgement of Country.
