allora-s-bridal-extravaganza-celebrates-143-years-of-fashion

UPDATE: On October 11, 2025, the Allora Community Hall became a time capsule of bridal fashion, hosting a spectacular Bridal Extravaganza and High Tea that showcased over a century of wedding gowns. This vibrant event, supported by the Queensland Government and COTA, drew a large crowd eager to witness the rich history of Allora’s bridal attire.

Attendees were treated to an impressive display of gowns dating back to 1882, including iconic styles from the roaring 20s, the flower-power 60s, and the shoulder-padded 90s. Young women from the community proudly modeled these historic pieces, breathing new life into the cherished garments of generations past. Among the highlights were Leanne Olivotto in her own 1988 dress, Kinley Crothers in a dress from Alvena Ruhle, also from 1988, and Amanda Bowe wearing a stunning 1940 wedding dress from Dulcie Tickle.

The event was the culmination of months of dedication from the Allora & District Historical Society (ADHS). Secretary Wendy Free expressed her elation, stating, “Seeing the event unfold was like a dream come true!” President Jim Andersen also extended his gratitude towards the many volunteers and community members whose efforts contributed to the success of the event, which aimed to raise funds for the upcoming Relocation Project.

These funds are pivotal as they will facilitate the movement of the Drayton Street museums to a more central location on Warwick Street, enhancing the historic precinct that preserves and shares the rich stories of Allora and its residents.

As the community celebrates this significant milestone, the ADHS is committed to continuing its mission to showcase Allora’s heritage in meaningful ways.

Stay tuned for more updates and see all the stunning pictures from the event in the upcoming issue of the Allora Advertiser. This event not only reflects the community’s rich history but also strengthens its bonds, making it a day to remember for all who attended.
