URGENT UPDATE: A woman has been fined a total of $1,300 after being caught driving under the influence of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Orange, NSW. Angala Simone Batty, aged 43, was sentenced on October 23, 2025, following an incident that occurred earlier this year on March 12.

At approximately 10:20 AM, Batty was pulled over by police while driving east on Bathurst Road. As officers approached, a male passenger exited the vehicle and entered a nearby petrol station, taking Batty’s wallet with him. Batty informed police that she did not possess a physical card for her NSW driver’s licence as she had recently completed her learner’s test. However, checks revealed her licence had been cancelled since March 15, 2024.

Police conducted a drug test, which returned a positive result for methamphetamine, leading to her arrest for further analysis. Upon searching her belongings, officers discovered a wallet containing 2 grams of methamphetamine along with eight packets of Buprenorphine, each weighing 2 mg.

During the court proceedings, Magistrate Gary Wilson stated that the charge of driving with methamphetamine in her system would not result in jail time. Although Batty’s solicitor, Georgia Campbell, disputed the weight of the drugs found, she ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges.

Batty was fined $150 for the possession of methamphetamine, an additional $500 for driving under the influence, and another $500 for driving while her licence was cancelled. Furthermore, her driver’s licence has been disqualified for six months.

This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding drug use and road safety, prompting urgent discussions about the legal implications of driving under the influence. As communities grapple with the consequences of drug-related offenses, the impact on public safety remains a paramount concern.

Authorities are urging all drivers to be aware of the serious legal ramifications of driving under the influence.
