UPDATE: The Western Suburbs Churches and Community Cricket Association’s T20 competition has officially kicked off, showcasing exhilarating matches and standout performances. This highly anticipated season features 24 teams divided into four competitive divisions, drawing cricket enthusiasts from across the region.
In an action-packed opening night, Tarneit Central, Williams Landing, and Glen Orden Thunder emerged victorious in the Division 1 Clenzo Group Shield. At Goddard Street Reserve, Tarneit Central dominated Manor Lakes, easily chasing down their total of 122 runs. Manor Lakes struggled at the crease, with Asim Mehmood leading the scoring with 30 runs. Three bowlers from Tarneit claimed two wickets each, restricting Manor Lakes effectively. Tarneit Central required only 10.1 overs to reach 124 runs, with Vishesh Malhotra smashing a remarkable 70 not out off just 36 balls, including 12 fours.
Williams Landing also shone, amassing an impressive 249 runs against Truganina United, finishing at 7-249. Top scorer Lovepreet Singh contributed 53 runs off 29 balls, as every batter made a notable impact. Truganina’s efforts fell short, bowled out for 113 runs in 18 overs. Bhumil Patel stood out with a fighting 60 runs off 40 balls.
In another thrilling match, Glen Orden Thunder secured a decisive victory over Altona Sports. Altona set a target of 141 runs, led by Dutch international Scott Edwards with a solid 64 runs off 46 balls. The Thunder successfully chased down the target, finishing at 6-142 in the 18th over. Jagmeet Brar contributed an essential 50 runs, while Abhishek Balarammahanti sealed the win with an unbeaten 33 runs.
The excitement didn’t stop there. In Division 2, Truganina Strikers, Altona Sports, and AATCC Legends emerged as winners; Division 3 saw Brimbank Strikers and Seabrook claim victories; while Division 4 featured wins for Yarraville Club and Manor Lakes.
