 
                BREAKING: Whittlesea Council has just endorsed its latest annual report, revealing significant achievements in infrastructure, sustainability, and community development for the last financial year. Mayor Martin Taylor emphasized that the report highlights the collaborative efforts of the council, residents, partner organizations, and various levels of government in “building a place for all.”
During the council meeting held on October 21, 2023, Mayor Taylor stated, “We are building the infrastructure, services, and programs that support every stage of life, ensuring the City of Whittlesea continues to be a place people are proud to call home.”
The council’s ambitious agenda has seen the successful delivery of over 113 projects through a robust $107 million capital works program. Key initiatives include the redevelopment of playgrounds, upgrades to shopping precincts, and essential road projects, notably the $7.9 million extension at Plenty Road and Everton Drive in Mernda.
Sport and recreation initiatives are also making headlines, with the council recently inaugurating a $2.6 million FIFA-accredited synthetic soccer pitch at Partridge Recreation Reserve in Lalor. Additionally, progress is underway on the regional sports precinct in Mernda, which was awarded a $42.14 million contract in September 2024. This development will feature an indoor stadium and outdoor netball courts, enhancing the community’s sports facilities.
The report also details the advancement of the $2.4 million project at the Aboriginal Gathering Place in bunjil nganga Parkland Quarry Hills, where over 7,000 indigenous trees have been planted. Further, the council is progressing on a $16.2 million community center in Wollert and an $11.4 million community center for Donnybrook.
Cr Jarrodd Lappin praised the report at the council meeting, stating, “The annual report paints an incredibly good picture and it drives home the fact this city is well-run, it’s organised, and it’s a forward-thinking council.” He highlighted the great work being done to build up growth suburbs while revitalizing established areas.
Additional highlights from the report include the distribution of $2.5 million in grants to support local groups, businesses, and individuals. The council has also launched improved council and tourism websites, a new customer service portal, and a creative program at the Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre.
