UPDATE: The Werribee Tigers have clinched their first win of the season in an electrifying match against Donvale at Chirnside Park on Saturday. After a rocky start to the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association east-west season, the Tigers delivered a commanding performance, showcasing their potential to turn the tide.
In a decisive one-day match, Werribee won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring an impressive 4-258 in their allotted 45 overs. Nathan Taylor led the charge with a stellar 63 runs, while every batter contributed at least 18 runs. The Tigers’ momentum carried into their bowling innings, where they dismantled Donvale’s batting line-up for a mere 59 runs in just 25 overs. Star bowler Mitchell Cullen shone brightly, achieving remarkable figures of 5 wickets for 14 runs in six overs. Robertson praised Cullen, noting, “It was good for Mitch to get some reward for the hard work.” Another standout was Matthew Watt, who claimed two wickets in his first over.
Looking forward, the Tigers are set to face Mt Waverley this coming Saturday, with Robertson optimistic about their prospects: “We are looking like a really good side.”
In parallel, Hoppers Crossing also celebrated a significant win against Endeavour Hills. The Cats bowled Endeavour Hills out for 162 runs and chased down the target with ease, finishing at 3-166 in the 27th over. Bibek Virk was instrumental in the win, scoring 88 runs off 73 balls.
