BREAKING: Two suspects arrested in the shocking Louvre jewels heist have been linked to a previous theft conviction from 2015. The Paris prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, revealed that three of the alleged thieves are now in custody, highlighting a troubling history of criminal activity.
Authorities confirmed that DNA evidence from a 37-year-old man, charged on Saturday, was found in the basket lift used for the heist. This suspect, with a staggering 11 prior convictions—10 for theft—faces preliminary charges of theft by an organized gang and criminal conspiracy.
Beccuau detailed that the 39-year-old suspect also shares a criminal history, with 15 convictions to his name, including two for theft. Notably, both men were convicted in the same theft case in Paris nearly a decade ago. “What’s interesting about these records is their prior involvement in a theft together,” Beccuau stated.
In addition, a 34-year-old suspect suspected of being part of the “commando” team was charged this week. Authorities have also charged a 38-year-old woman with complicity, who is the longtime partner of the 37-year-old suspect. All four suspects remain in custody as the investigation unfolds.
Beccuau emphasized the ongoing efforts to track the stolen jewels, stating, “We are examining all possibilities on the parallel market for selling this jewelry.” She warned against the potential for the jewels to be used in money laundering or trade.
In a recent interview with Le Parisien, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez expressed optimism about the investigation. “There are four perpetrators, at least one of whom remains at large, plus possibly those who ordered the crime,” he noted. However, he tempered expectations regarding the recovery of the stolen items, saying, “My optimism doesn’t extend to thinking that the loot will be recovered quickly.”
