A vibrant gathering of women dressed in pink convened at the Windsor RSL on October 30, 2023, for the annual Pink Ribbon Brunch, aimed at raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Hosted by Deputy Mayor Sarah McMahon, the event not only fostered a sense of community but also highlighted the importance of supporting breast cancer research.

The venue was adorned with fresh flowers and pink decorations, creating an inviting atmosphere. Among the notable features was an eye-catching donut display, which attendees admired in addition to the delicious brunch spread. Each seat was thoughtfully prepared with care packages, including heart-shaped sunglasses and pink scrunchies, ensuring everyone felt included and appreciated.

Guests mingled throughout the morning, sharing stories and connecting over a shared purpose. Ali Hilliard from the Hawkesbury Veteran and Family Hub expressed her admiration for the event, stating, “We are here to raise vital funds and have the opportunity to connect with other like-minded people in the community. It’s absolutely amazing. They’ve done such a beautiful job.”

Another attendee, Jacky Turamo from The Jeremiah Project, reflected on the personal significance of the event. “A lot of people on our team have been affected by breast cancer, and I think it’s important to get together, have a chat, and share a meal. We love what Yasmin at Windsor RSL represents. Community and connection.”

Brunch Highlights and Community Impact

The lavish brunch featured an array of delicate pastries, savory bites, and sweet treats, creating a high tea experience that delighted attendees. Every detail, from the table settings to the floral arrangements, was meticulously curated to enhance the event’s purpose.

Raffle tickets added an element of excitement, with prizes including two tickets to see the Olivia Newton-John show and a bottle of Xanadu wine from Margaret River. The efforts of Yasmin Chalmers, Community Engagement Manager, and Melinda McIlwaine, Marketing Manager, ensured that attendees left with smiles and a sense of fulfillment.

As the event neared its conclusion, Deputy Mayor Sarah McMahon took a moment to express her gratitude. “A huge thank you to Windsor RSL for hosting today’s Pink Ribbon Breakfast, with all funds raised going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Everyone has been touched by someone in their family or a loved one by cancer. So, I think to come together, raise funds, and connect with the community is really vital, and it’s been a special day.”

Tickets for the brunch were priced at $10, with every dollar directly supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This initiative was not solely about fundraising; it was a celebration of community, women supporting women, and fostering hope through shared experiences.

As the morning wrapped up, attendees left with a sense of camaraderie, having enjoyed a meal and meaningful conversations. Many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to connect and support a cause that resonates with so many.

For those who wish to contribute further, donations can still be made via the Windsor RSL’s community page, with all proceeds directed to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Together, attendees demonstrated that positive change can stem from unity and purpose, one cup of tea at a time.
