Great Southern Mining has announced significant findings from its latest aircore drilling campaign at the Duketon gold project, located near Laverton in Western Australia. The drilling has uncovered a remarkable 4.5-kilometre corridor of shallow high-grade gold at the company’s Amy Clarke prospect. Notably, one drill strike yielded an impressive 2 metres of gold grading at 23.9 grams per tonne (g/t), marking a pivotal discovery that places Amy Clarke at the forefront of the company’s exploration efforts.
The standout strike emerged from the southernmost drill line, an area previously unexplored, suggesting that the gold system remains open to further discovery in that direction. To date, Great Southern Mining has completed 8,000 metres of aircore drilling across a stretch of 6 kilometres, with assay results now available for 3,500 metres of that total. Among other promising results, one hole intersected 11 metres at 1.2 g/t gold from a depth of 25 metres, including a 6-metre segment grading at 1.7 g/t gold. Another hole reported 2 metres at 1.5 g/t from 30 metres, confirming the presence of continuous mineralisation starting from the surface.
Financial Backing Fuels Exploration
The funding for this aggressive drilling initiative has been significantly bolstered by a strategic sale of a mining licence to Regis Resources for $4 million, a figure that could expand to $9 million based on future milestones. This financial injection is vital for Great Southern Mining as it continues to explore the Amy Clarke prospect, which has previously yielded positive results from a 2021 campaign, including a notable strike of 8 metres at 6.73 g/t gold from 32 metres and 4 metres at 2.13 g/t from the surface.
The recent assays have provided crucial data that appears to illustrate a broad, shallow gold system extending nearly 5 kilometres in length. This finding aligns with earlier surface anomalies identified through soil sampling, indicating the potential for substantial mineral deposits in the area. Remarkably, this represents only the second round of exploration at the Amy Clarke prospect, which has seen minimal investigation since the 1990s when Sons of Gwalia conducted shallow rotary air-blast drilling.
Great Southern Mining’s managing director, Matthew Keane, expressed confidence in the findings, stating, “Great Southern sees significant gold potential at Amy Clarke.” As the exploration progresses, the mining community will be keenly watching for further developments in this promising gold corridor.
