UPDATE: The 50th Maldon Folk Festival, running from October 31 to November 4, 2025, has captivated attendees, with Festival Director Pam Lyons reporting record crowds and a vibrant atmosphere. The town of Maldon, Victoria is alive with music, food, and festivities, creating an unforgettable experience for festival-goers.
“It’s been really great. I think we’re at capacity,” said Pam on Sunday evening, as the festival reached its final days. “Apparently, the ice cream and fudge shop has sold out. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the food vendors have sold out!” The excitement is palpable, with attendees flocking to venues and enjoying the diverse lineup of performances.
The weather has played a perfect role, providing sunny skies for most of the weekend, ideal for the Troubadour tent nestled among the trees. The Machinery Museum has been a hub for lively sets, while Progress Hall has drawn huge crowds for both big-name acts and local talent. The streets of Maldon are bustling with fans moving from one performance to the next, soaking in the atmosphere filled with buskers, dancers, and spontaneous jam sessions.
A highlight of the festival included a spectacular display of Morris Dancing on Main Street, featuring George Mann from the USA alongside local legends Mick Coates and Matiss Schubert. The festival’s organization has been bolstered by the tireless efforts of local community groups and volunteers, including the Maldon CFA, Victorian Goldfields Railway, Maldon Men’s Shed, Maldon Lions Club, and the Maldon Vintage Machinery and Museum.
“It’s exceeded expectations,” Pam stated to the Tarrangower Times. “It’s a world-class lineup, and the audience has been spoilt for choice.” With the festival set to close, the community is already celebrating the success of this milestone event.
