UPDATE: A serious head-on collision has left three individuals hospitalized in North St Marys, Sydney, late on Saturday night. Among the injured are two police officers, prompting an urgent investigation by authorities.
At approximately 10:30 PM, a 47-year-old male driver of a Holden sedan collided head-on with a marked police car on Debrincat Ave. Emergency responders rushed the driver to Westmead Hospital, where he is currently reported to be in serious but stable condition.
The two officers involved—a 25-year-old male constable and a 25-year-old female senior constable—were treated at the scene before being transported to Nepean Hospital as a precaution. The officers were engaged in a search for a Volkswagen Golf that had failed to stop for a random breath test at a nearby location in Dean Park.
Police had initiated a pursuit of the Golf, but when they lost sight of the vehicle, they called off the chase and began patrolling the area. Shortly after, one of the police vehicles collided with the Holden sedan.
The incident is now under scrutiny by the NSW Police critical investigation team, which will conduct a detailed review. Additionally, the Professional Standards Command and the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission will oversee an independent investigation into the crash.
Authorities are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Crimestoppers immediately.
As investigations continue, this incident raises significant questions about police pursuits and public safety in the area. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
