UPDATE: A tragic crash in Doomadgee has left a 30-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter dead, prompting an urgent police investigation. The incident occurred at 6:30 AM on November 7, involving a white 2006 Toyota LandCruiser and a black 2011 Nissan Maxima. Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
The crash resulted in the LandCruiser rolling over, leading to the deaths of the driver and her daughter. Three other children, aged 1, 3, and 4, were taken to the hospital. While one remains in critical condition, another’s condition has stabilized, and the toddler suffered only minor injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that a 28-year-old man, who was in a separate vehicle during the incident, is currently in police custody. This man is reported to be in a relationship with the deceased woman and is a parent to the children involved. As of now, no charges have been filed.
Mount Isa District Acting Superintendent Paul Austin stated that the investigation is focused on understanding the events leading up to the tragedy. “What occurred on Friday is nothing short of a tragedy, and our officers are dedicated to thoroughly investigating what has occurred,” Austin remarked. He also emphasized the importance of the images released of the vehicles, stating they are crucial for the ongoing investigation.
“We appeal to anyone who may have seen these vehicles in the days or hours before Friday or may have had interactions with their occupants to contact Doomadgee or Mount Isa Police, as well as Crime Stoppers or Policelink,” Austin added.
Both vehicles have been relocated to Mount Isa for further examination. Investigators are exploring all possible factors, including the potential involvement of domestic violence. “We’re looking at everything,” Austin confirmed, underlining the need for a comprehensive investigation.
