UPDATE: Rover has officially completed its acquisition of Mad Paws, marking a significant expansion into Australia’s booming pet care market. The announcement was made on November 11, 2025, just days after the scheme of arrangement was approved by Mad Paws shareholders and the Supreme Court of New South Wales on November 3, 2025.
This acquisition allows Rover, the world’s largest online marketplace for pet care, to tap into a market valued at approximately A$30 billion. By acquiring 100% of Mad Paws shares, Rover is positioning itself to serve the needs of over 300,000 active pet parents and 70,000 registered pet care providers in Australia.
As part of the transaction, Mad Paws shareholders will receive A$0.14 cash for each share held, with trading of Mad Paws shares suspended as of November 3, 2025. The company is set to be delisted from the Australian Securities Exchange effective November 12, 2025 (AEST).
Rover’s CEO, Brent Turner, expressed excitement about this venture, stating, “The closing of this transaction represents a significant milestone in Rover’s journey, allowing us to see and serve the unique needs of pets in a new continent.”
Mad Paws has built a robust platform over the past eleven years, facilitating over 400,000 transactions in 2024 alone. The company will continue to operate under its own brand from its base in Sydney, Australia, led by Justus Hammer, Group CEO and Co-founder. Hammer shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the importance of providing reliable pet care to Australian pet owners.
This strategic acquisition not only strengthens Rover’s global reach but also enhances its commitment to connecting pet parents with trusted care providers offering various services, including boarding, dog walking, and daycare.
The partnership underscores the growing demand for pet care services in Australia, providing an opportunity for Rover to deliver its renowned services to a new audience.
With the acquisition finalized, pet owners in Australia can expect an improved marketplace experience as Rover integrates Mad Paws’ offerings into its platform.
As Rover continues to expand its footprint globally, all eyes are on how this acquisition will reshape the pet care landscape in Australia.
