record-breaking-yamba-rod-run-draws-511-entrants-and-thousands-of-fans

The 32nd annual Yamba Rod Run, organized by the Borderline Street Rodders, attracted a record-breaking 511 entrants and thousands of spectators over the weekend. Car enthusiasts traveled from various locations, including Tasmania and Cairns, to participate in this popular event held at Ford Park.

Saturday’s traditional Show and Shine featured nearly 500 cars, dazzling visitors from 9:00 AM to midday. According to Craig Nolan, President of the Borderline Street Rodders, this year’s turnout surpassed the previous record of approximately 480 entrants. “Everyone has said they had a really good time,” he stated, highlighting the event’s success.

Concerns arose regarding the event’s future when the NRMA acquired the Blue Dolphin Resort, which had been a favored accommodation for participants. Nolan noted that not all entrants could stay in the park, as it had reached full capacity. “We had a lot of people who stayed off-site this year,” he explained. Many participants opted for rentals or other caravan parks, as they had made alternative arrangements during the uncertainty surrounding the event’s organization.

Local business owners reported a significant increase in customer traffic during the event, further emphasizing Yamba’s vibrant atmosphere. Over its 32-year history, the Yamba Rod Run has raised substantial funds for various charities. Nolan shared details about the club’s fundraising efforts, stating, “We have a lot of goods that are donated over the year, we buy stuff when we see it at the right price, and we hold auctions.”

This year, the club auctioned a vintage refrigerator, which was creatively restored by a major sponsor, alongside a signed poster from Moon Eyes, an iconic American brand. The proceeds from these auctions benefited the Meningococcal Foundation. Nolan noted that the club matched the auction earnings, amplifying their charitable contributions.

The event also featured activities designed to engage participants, including observation drives around the Lower Clarence. On Thursday, attendees visited Sanctus Brewery, while Friday’s route included scenic spots in Yamba and Angourie, offering participants suggestions for dining and sightseeing.

Entertainment was also part of the weekend, with live music from the band Linelockers before the auctions on Friday night. The atmosphere was lively, with visitors cruising the park and enjoying the festive environment. “People enjoy cruising the park while everyone sits on the side of the road and watches the cars go around; it’s a bit of a party atmosphere,” Nolan added.

Looking ahead, the Borderline Street Rodders plan to meet with Blue Dolphin management to discuss arrangements for the 2026 event. “We are happy to come back, so long as they are happy to have us back,” Nolan stated.

For those interested in reliving the event, photos showcasing the array of cars from the Show and Shine will be available on the Clarence Valley Independent website. The Yamba Rod Run continues to be a significant event in the community, combining automotive passion with charitable endeavors.
