UPDATE: The Perth Lynx delivered a stunning performance with a 79-64 victory over the Bendigo Spirit, marking their best offensive display of the season. Coach Ryan Petrik praised the team’s resurgence following a disappointing loss to Geelong earlier this week. This decisive win took place on Sunday afternoon at the Perth High Performance Centre.
The Lynx’s explosive third quarter saw them score 28 points, their highest for any single quarter this season, allowing them to establish a commanding 20-point lead. Standout player Amy Atwell shone brightly with 21 points and four three-pointers. Meanwhile, Alex Ciabattoni contributed significantly with 16 points, including 12 points in the pivotal third quarter. Both Brianna Turner and Anneli Maley added 12 points, with Maley also dominating the boards with 16 rebounds.
Petrik emphasized the team’s improved cohesion and execution: “That was much, much, much better,” he stated, acknowledging the previous struggles. The Lynx had been ranked last in the league for offensive efficiency, but this game demonstrated a significant turnaround. “To get 22 assists and only eight turnovers was far and away our best offensive display this season,” he added.
In a notable personal achievement, Ally Wilson debuted a custom-made mask while celebrating her 250th game, also receiving WNBL life membership. Her 10 assists were crucial in orchestrating the Lynx’s offense during the match.
As the team prepares to integrate Chinese superstar Han Xu, Petrik indicated that the players are beginning to grasp the necessary adjustments. “We had tried four or five things to fix it and on the fifth or sixth attempt, we found something that triggered it,” he explained, highlighting their previous offensive struggles.
The Lynx’s improvement is vital as they aim to build momentum in the WNBL, and fans can anticipate further developments as they continue to refine their game plan.
With this win, the Perth Lynx not only regained their confidence but also sent a strong message to the league. As they look ahead, all eyes will be on their next match as they aim to maintain this newfound offensive prowess.
