UPDATE: Starting November 25, 2023, the City of Casey launches a powerful 16-day initiative aimed at combating gender-based violence. This global campaign seeks to raise awareness and mobilize action to prevent violence against women and girls, marking an urgent response to alarming local statistics.

Backed by over 6000 organizations worldwide, the campaign—dubbed ‘Casey says NO to violence’—is designed to foster a community united against abuse. The City of Casey has released a compelling video featuring local leaders, including Mayor Stefan Koomen, and representatives from Victoria Police.

“Every person in our community deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued,” Mayor Koomen stated in a recent media release. “The City of Casey stands united in saying NO to violence, and these 16 days are a powerful reminder that change is possible when we stand together.”

The urgency of this campaign is underscored by recent data from the Crime Statistics Agency, revealing a concerning 13.6% increase in reported family violence cases in Casey. The majority of those affected are women and girls, highlighting the critical need for community action and support.

From now until December 10, 2023, Casey Council will focus on providing vital resources and support services. This initiative ensures that victims of domestic and family violence are aware of the ongoing help available to them. For comprehensive information and resources, residents are encouraged to visit casey.vic.gov.au/family-violence-help.

If you or someone you know is impacted by family violence, support is available through 1800 RESPECT by calling 1800 737 732, a national counseling service providing specialist support and advice.

This campaign not only aims to raise awareness but also to foster a safer community for all. The City of Casey’s commitment to ending gender-based violence is now more critical than ever—join the movement and make your voice heard.
