The Cook Government has announced the recipients of the 2025 Clinician Research Fellowships, awarding a total of $1.43 million to support innovative medical research projects in Western Australia. This funding aims to enhance diagnosis, treatment, system efficiency, and long-term health outcomes for residents. The Fellowships are part of a longstanding partnership between the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund and the Raine Medical Research Foundation.
Celebrating its fourteenth year, the Clinician Research Fellowships program empowers medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to advance their research careers while continuing vital clinical roles. Since its inception in 2012, the program has awarded 56 Fellowships, with over $136 million invested in clinician-led research across the state.
Recognition of Innovative Contributions
The recipients of the 2025 Fellowships were recognized during the 2025 Raine Foundation Annual Award Ceremony, highlighting their significant contributions to the health of Western Australians. Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting world-class research that yields tangible benefits for the community.
“The Clinician Research Fellowships continue to play a vital role in empowering our clinicians to drive innovation, improve patient care, and strengthen our health system,” Dawson noted. He added that the FHRI Fund facilitates medical breakthroughs that have a positive impact locally, nationally, and globally.
Since its establishment in 2020, the FHRI Fund has allocated more than $282 million to 810 recipients, supporting researchers and innovators in developing impactful health solutions. Looking ahead, an additional $292 million is available over the next four years to fund new programs and initiatives aligned with the FHRI Fund Strategy for 2025-30.
Dawson congratulated the Fellowship recipients and expressed anticipation for the positive outcomes their research will generate within the community. As the Cook Government continues to prioritize health innovation, these Fellowships represent a significant investment in the future of medical research in Western Australia.
