UPDATE: Special Olympics Sydney South hosted a successful charity golf day on November 17, 2023, at the prestigious Cronulla Golf Club, bringing together 100 participants for an ambrose event. The day was marked by perfect weather and a spirit of camaraderie, with five dedicated athletes showcasing their skills.

Club Chairperson Kathy Slade expressed her gratitude, stating, “It was a fantastic day for both sponsors and players.” She extended a heartfelt thank you to major sponsor Stanton Collaborative and all hole sponsors, emphasizing that their contributions directly benefit the athletes at the heart of this initiative.

The event underscores Special Olympics Sydney South’s commitment to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism through sport. For over 35 years, the organization has been a beacon of hope, promoting inclusion and connection. With eight sports offered across eleven weekly sessions, they champion healthy, active lifestyles, ensuring every athlete is supported to achieve their full potential.

Volunteer and Cronulla Golf Club member Peter Lyons received positive feedback regarding the course’s excellent condition and the high-quality service from the club’s food and beverage team. Special Olympics athlete Carl O’Farrell, who won the longest drive in the athlete division, shared his pride in helping fellow athletes enhance their golf skills.

Special Olympics CEO Jamie O’Connor and federal MP for Cook Simon Kennedy were also in attendance, highlighting the event’s community impact. Golf coordinator April O’Shea remarked, “Simon is a great supporter of Special Olympics Sydney South and has attended multiple training sessions and fundraisers over the last 12 months, promoting inclusion through the power of sport.”
