UPDATE: The highly anticipated Suncorp Super Netball season will launch in Bendigo on March 14, 2026, featuring a thrilling match between the Melbourne Mavericks and the Giants. The action kicks off at 5 PM at the Red Energy Arena, marking a significant sporting event for the region.

This exciting announcement comes after Australia’s recent victory over South Africa, where they triumphed 64-53 last month at the same venue. Stacey West, SSN CEO, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Bendigo has always delivered electric crowds… fans will experience all the skill and passion that makes Suncorp Super Netball the world’s best netball league.”

Bendigo’s reputation for passionate netball support continues to grow, particularly highlighted by the Bendigo Strikers, who have excelled in the Victorian Netball League. The Strikers maintain a close connection with the Mavericks; their head coach, Tracey Brereton, also leads the Mavericks’ reserves team.

The Mavericks are excited to showcase their new recruits, including Jamie-Lee Price, who will face her former team, the Giants, for the first time. Price, the previous year’s winner of the Liz Ellis Diamond award, is expected to draw significant attention during this season opener.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for fans to see our new recruits in Mavericks colours for the very first time,” said Shae Bolton-Brown, general manager of the Mavericks. She emphasized the region’s incredible passion for netball, which has been evident during previous Super Netball pre-season matches and the recent international clash.

The match is anticipated to attract visitors statewide, boosting tourism and local businesses in Bendigo. Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, noted, “This game will attract visitors from across the state, filling hotel rooms, restaurants and cafes in a huge boost for Bendigo businesses.”

In addition to the SSN match, the Red Energy Arena will host Melbourne United in NBL games this January, further solidifying its status as a premier venue for elite sports.

Fans eager to support the Mavericks can take advantage of an exclusive Bendigo membership that offers discounted tickets to the opening match and other home games. With both teams preparing for this major showdown, the excitement is palpable as the countdown to the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season commences in Bendigo.
