UPDATE: A man has been shot dead in a shocking daylight incident in Blacktown, western Sydney, prompting a swift police response and the arrest of two suspects. The shooting occurred around midday on Friday, with police discovering the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his neck, chest, and leg.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Carinya Street, just a block away from the bustling heart of Blacktown. Despite paramedics’ efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have confirmed that a Mazda ute was seen fleeing the area shortly after the gunfire erupted. A rapid police pursuit ensued, culminating in a crash on Kildare Road, less than 2 kilometers from the original location. The two occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by officers and transported to Blacktown Police Station for questioning.
This incident marks a troubling continuation of violence in Sydney, which has seen over a dozen public shootings, arson attacks, and kidnappings since Christmas 2024. In response, police established the 150 officer-strong Taskforce Falcon in May to combat the escalating underworld conflict.
Residents are left shaken by the brazen nature of the shooting, which took place in broad daylight on a suburban street. The police have not yet released the identity of the victim as investigations are ongoing.
As authorities continue their inquiries, more information is expected to emerge in the coming hours. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
